Commissioned by: THEMA Hoger Onderwijs (2022)
Objective: Outline the latest trends, benefits and challenges of international student mobility
Numbers of internationally mobile students world-wide rose significantly in the past decade. The internationalisation of higher education is influenced by ‘political, economic, socio-cultural and academic rationales’, including globalisation and the increased importance of knowledge for economies. One component of the internationalisation of higher education, international student mobility, has received increasing policy attention in recent years, including its potential to enhance economic development and European integration. Regional Capital has been asked to outline the latest trends, benefits and challenges of this development for both students and higher education institutions. The findings are discussed in the following article.
