Six regional planning agencies and four governmental departments in the Netherlands come together under a network called National Network Broad Prosperity. Its focus is on increasing prosperity via both and centralized and decentralized policies. The network launched the Knowledge and Learning Programme ‘Broad Prosperity in Policy’ in 2023. Within this learning programme, the regional planning agencies each work under a theme to study broad prosperity goals through different perspectives. Then, around each theme, a Community of Practice (CoP) is set up for policymakers and researchers to apply lessons learned in case studies to effectuate broad prosperity.
The theme “Steering for Impact” was initiated by Neimed, the National Network for Broad Prosperity, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and the Open University. Regional Capital has been asked to lead the theme, “Steering for Impact” and the corresponding CoP. Regional Capital has also been asked to write a chapter in the network handbook for broad prosperity.
The aim of this theme is to gain insight into the ways governments and organisations currently use broad prosperity to evaluate the impact of their policies and actions on broad prosperity in the region. The evaluations consider location and different time horizons, or as it is described, the ‘here and now’, ‘elsewhere’ and ‘in the future’.
